About Our Training System and Methodology
Alida Connection provides support to help you learn, remember, and apply
what you learn in our classes. We teach research-based, time-tested strategies
to help you study and prepare for the test. With the use of these strategies,
learning goes deeper than just “memorize, test, and forget it.” By developing
a deeper understanding of the concepts learned in our training classes,
you can enhance your expertise in the technical field, leading to further
career success.
What makes us different than other security training companies?
Examples of learning strategies we teach:
• Use of graphic organizers •
Types of note-taking
• The role of the adult learner •
Learning styles
Alida Connection’s slogan is “Knowledge to Empower People.” What does
that mean? What sets us apart from all the other technical training companies?
What can we offer customers that many of competitors do not? ...
The answer is simple; education. Not simply training, but education.
Helping customers acquire the knowledge, skills and expertise needed to
increase their technological knowledge and power. While many training
instructors spend a week reading directly from a book to (often very confused)
students, or spend a week dispersing a tremendous volume of facts and
figures, Alida Connection’s instructors go far beyond that. We are invested
in our customers’ success. We WANT them to get the technical certifications
they need to succeed, and we provide support for them along the way.
Additionally, we use many “best practice” techniques to optimize learning
and understanding. The techniques help customers learn information in
ways that greatly increase their chances of passing technical exams and
receiving certifications that increase their career success. Some of these
best practice technique, as they apply in a training classroom setting,
are outlined below.
Instructional Best Practice Techniques:
Tim Hoffman uses the following techniques to engage students in meaningful
learning:
• Uses personal experience to give examples and add meaning to learning
• Uses humor to engage students, keep their attention, and present
information
• Authentic and relevant information; Mr. Hoffman explains the significance
and/or relevance of the material, which research has shown that adults
need to optimize their learning
• Personal engagement: Mr. Hoffman takes the time to get to know each
student; this is proven to increase participation, foster a positive
learning environment, and enhance learning
• Dynamic Instructional Style: Tim Hoffman is expressive, energetic
and dynamic in his teaching. He moves around often to engage student
attention. His enthusiasm for the subject injects energy and reciprocal
interest in the participants.
Accelerated Learning Techniques
Originally developed by Dr. GeorgiLazanov in the early 70s to refer
to a set flow of classroom instruction, this term now refers to a wide
variety of instructional techniques that are proven to increase learning
in a classroom setting. In a training situation, Tim Hoffman uses objective
setting and material segmentation to increase understanding.
• Objective setting—students know very clearly what they will be
learning…at the beginning of the course, at the beginning of each
day, and even at the beginning of each lesson.
• Material segmentation—large amounts of material are presented in
smaller segments so the brain is more easily able to absorb new material
without being overwhelmed.
Applied Learning Techniques
There are many definitions of this term, from those of a general nature
to those involving statistics. In its most literal form, this means
applying what is learned in the classroom to real-life situations. Alida
Connection excels at this. Our instructors are up-to-date on the very
latest information in terms of what is happening in technology today.
Throughout their courses, they offer numerous examples of how specific
terms/content/situations:
• Used to be used in the technology world
• Are used today
• Will likely be used in the future
Positive Learning Environment
In a training class setting, this term would refer to setting a positive
atmosphere for the participants. In this environment, the atmosphere
is one of mutual respect, caring, and focus on learning. It’s a place
where you hear affirming statements, laughter, and information presented
in a way that makes sense. Tim Hoffman does an outstanding job of setting
a positive climate and tone for his classes from the moment he begins
and that continues throughout the entirety of the class.
Stretch/Break Intervals
Stretch breaks allow for an individual to recover from any inert and/or
continuous activity. The human brain can only handle so much information,
and inactivity, before “shutting off” or wandering as a means of coping
with the activity. Tim Hoffman gives his students a stretch break every
hour so they can move, get some fresh air, and/or generally recharge
before resuming the class.
Managing Physical Environment
Tim Hoffman sets up the classroom to optimize learning. After analyzing
the room layout, he moves furniture to accommodate proximity to instructor
and visuals; he moves students closer to the material for easier viewing;
and he ensures that all needed materials are easily accessible. We check
room temperature settings to be sure they are moderate; not too warm
or too chilly; and we insure the venue lighting is conducive to learning.
